At the end of this post, please see your next step if you’d like to be kept informed of the support we can provide over the coming months.
Almost inevitably, I am making the decision to temporarily suspend our Nordic walking classes in Hampstead and at Alexandra Palace with immediate effect. Over the past week, we have pretty successfully implemented stricter and stricter measures for social distancing but, sadly, the only way I can now see to truly minimise the risk of adding to the burden of spreading COVID-19 further is by not coming together in the first place.
If you are already booked into a class, I will contact you separately to ensure you are aware of this decision, then remove the class. Any payment made will be re-credited to your account.
For those of you paying by monthly direct debit I will be in touch separately about your options.
Which brings me to what I hope we can do together to stay active, stay well and stay in touch:
I have been involved in the delivery of sport, exercise and physical activity in some capacity for over 30 years. By far the most important factor in staying active is through creating a habit of exercise, irrespective of the actual exercise. We have been achieving this by meeting for our regular walks and classes but now we have to adapt and create new habits.
I will be offering daily ‘exercise’ sessions online through the online platform, Zoom. I say ‘exercise’ classes as these won’t be long sessions to follow at home – there are plenty of exercise videos and classes you can find online (and please do search for ones that might excite you). Rather, consider how we differ in our ethos and delivery of WALX outdoors to the exercise delivered in a gym or health club; our online ‘coming together’ will reflect this.
The exercises will be manageable (with additional challenge for those who want it) and there will be a focus on education so you can do some of the exercises in your own time. The focus of sessions will change: I’ll deliver some, and we’ll have some national guest instructors from WALX and Nordic Walking UK. Habit will be a really important factor: these will be at a set time and probably only around 20mins so you don’t need to overcommit. I’ll also suggest simple healthy habits: for example, be washed and dressed for the session, so you’re ready to do something positive in the day.
Zoom is free, really easy to use and I’ll provide instructions and support on getting you set up, so don’t worry about that.
Your next step:
This email has gone out to a large database and I appreciate that you may not want to receive all our communications. I will be emailing separately everyone paying by monthly direct debit and those that I have seen regularly in the past year or so – these people do not need to respond just yet. If I haven’t seen you for a while but you’d like more details, please reply or email firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll keep you informed. I am also putting in place the option of online personal fitness (Daniel is ready, and Izzy is ready and waiting to support from Argentina!).
Above all else, stay well.
